Mt. Olive Man Charged With Arson

Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp and Mount Olive Police Chief Mark Spitzer announce that John Maulbeck Jr. (age 23) a resident of the Flanders section of Mt. Olive Township, New Jersey has been charged with Arson, in violation of N.J.S.A 2C:17-1b2, a crime of the third degree. Maulbeck was arrested today following an investigation conducted by the Mt. Olive Police Department and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Arson/Environmental Unit.
On April 28, 2015 at approximately 7:05 p.m., members of the Mount Olive Police Department and the Flanders Fire Department were dispatched to 130 US 206 South in Flanders, New Jersey on a report of a house fire. Responders located an active fire to the attached garage of a single family home. A resident of the home, suffered injury due to smoke inhalation and was treated and released from the hospital.
The Honorable Brian J. Levine, J.M.C., Mount Olive set bail at $30,000 with 10% option. The defendant was unable to post bail and was remanded to the Morris County Correctional Facility.
Prosecutor Knapp would like to thank Chief Mark Spitzer, the Mt. Olive Township Police Department, the Flanders Fire Department, Mount Olive Twp. Fire Marshal’s Office, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Arson/Environmental Unit, and Morris County Sheriff’s Office.
A criminal complaint is merely an accusation.  Despite this accusation, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until he or she has been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
