On Sunday morning from 10:30-11am, Prosecutor Fredric Knapp and Chief Assistant Prosecutor Brad Seabury joined Jessie Frees of WMTR’s show titled, “Ask the Expert”. This was the third time Prosecutor Knapp and Chief Assistant Prosecutor Seabury joined Jessie on her weekly show to discuss current issues in the community.
This interview covered the current status of the opioid epidemic, and how the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office is working with their partners, such as the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, and Morris CARES to combat this crisis.
Jessie questioned Prosecutor Knapp and Chief Assistant Prosecutor Seabury on all aspects of the opioid epidemic, from how the drugs enter the community, to how the MCPO’s Special Enforcement Unit works to thwart the sale of these opiates before they can be distributed.
The key point of the discussion though, focused on the Narcan 2.0 program and all of the success that it has had since its implementation nine months ago. Chief Assistant Prosecutor Seabury noted a few of the statistics that the MCPO has recently received over this time period including the fact that 59 of the 83 overdose victims who were “reversed” with the aid of Narcan, accepted the services of the Addiction Recovery Response Team of Morris CARES. This means that 71% of those victims had a better chance of breaking the cycle of opioid addiction through the help of the Narcan 2.0 program.
The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office aims to educate the Morris County community about the perils of the opioid and heroin epidemic, and appreciate Jessie Frees and WMTR for giving Prosecutor Knapp and Chief Assistant Prosecutor Seabury another platform to spread this ever important message on.
