Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and Butler Police Department Confirm Fatal Fire Investigation

Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp, Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Acting Chief of Investigations Christoph Kimker, and Butler Police Chief Ciro Chimento confirm the investigation of a fire occurring on Myrtle Avenue in Butler, New Jersey on December 31, 2019.

At approximately 4:54 p.m., authorities were notified of a residential fire on Myrtle Avenue, Butler NJ.  The residence was heavily damaged as a result of the fire.  The preliminary investigation has revealed that the fire resulted in two (2) fatalities. The investigation remains ongoing and the identities of the individuals will not be released at this time.

Prosecutor Knapp would like to thank the Butler Fire Department, the Butler Borough Police Department, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Arson and Environmental Unit, the Morris Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, and all other mutual aid providers for their efforts in this matter.
